The Abbe Museum’s collections focus on contemporary and historic Native American art, artifacts, and objects from Maine and the Northeast, totaling over 70,000 items. Varied traditional and contemporary art forms and archaeological artifacts represent the ever-evolving culture of Wabanaki people.
In 2018, the Abbe Museum received an NEH Grant to decolonize collections management and access. This site is being used to share current collection information and record metadata with the Wabanaki communities, and in turn, for the Wabanaki to create community records associated with the Abbe's collections.
