Kings Heath WAML - Fun For Kids - 2017

Well what more could we want, wall to wall sunshine, Cannon Hill Park at its best, the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of the West Midlands, W. Bro. D. Bradnock, and R. W. Bro. Robert C. Vaughan, the Provincial Grand Master …….. Oh and 450 children with special needs enjoying 2 hours at Bro Robert Wilkinson’s Fun Fair.

This event started as a one off in 2002 during Freemasonry in the Community Week spearheaded by W. Bro. Trevor Barnes and Masons from Kings Heath WAML - well 16 years later and the event has gone from strength to strength.

This year we had two new schools make enquiries about the event, unfortunately one school had their mini bus’s all booked out that day but will be with us next year.

Last year due to family commitments W. Bro. Trevor Barnes indicated that he could no longer commit the time to the event; on hearing this news the Deputy Headmaster of Selly Oak School, Mr James Hawkins spoke to Trevor asking if possible to continue with the event as it had become such a success and the children looked forward to visiting the fair, Trevor approached W. Bro’s Leo Brown and Alan Breward who agreed to take over the running of the event.

Once again we were supported by a valiant ‘Band of Brothers’ to act as Stewards: with a special vote of thanks to W. Bro. Derek Owen who collected the Deputy Lord Lieutenant.

I must record my heartfelt thanks to Bro. Robert Wilkinson, CM for making this possible, his enthusiasm and assistance knows no bounds.

As many of you will have seen the PGM certainly enjoyed himself showing of his skills on the dodgems once again; and, together with David Bradnock they toured the Fair speaking to all the children and assisting were necessary, unfortunately  Leo Brown due to a torn knee ligament, Iwas unable to join them on the rides.
