Good support for First Round of the Provincial Lecture Competion

There was enthusiastic support from interested Masons who turned up at Halesowen to hear the first three of the 11 entrants in the Province’s first ever Lecture Competition.

​The 'First-off' was W. Bro. Ken Elston, of Pathfinder Lodge, No. 8586. His subject was, "Masonic History Beyond a Postage Stamp".

Then came W. Bro. John Harmshaw, of Page Lodge, No. W. Bro.  John Harmshaw, of Page Lodge, No. 3378, with, "A Tribute to W.Bro. Tad Gawronski" - a fighter ace and ‘One of The Few’; and, a committed and modest Freemason.

Finally, WBro. Peter Butler, of Thistle Lodge, No. 5064, presented, “Information and Meanings on the Devices on the Master Mason's Apron”.

35 members present listened intently to the three widely differing topics, none more so than the judges -  the Provincial Grand Master, RW. Bro. Robert Vaughan; the Provincial Grand Mentor, Mark Lodge, and, the Provincial Grand Orator, Jeremy Mallin, who organised the competition.

The second session takes place at Kidderminster Masonic Centre at 7.30 on 3rd February with:

  • W. Bro. Peter Ricketts, Lodge of Hope and Charity, No. 377 – “Three pence for a Sick Mason.”
  • Bro. David Rushforth, Severn Lodge, No. 5583 – “Initiation, Culminating in the Charge after Initiation.”
  • Bro. Glen Collins, Old Carolian Lodge, No. 7599 – “The Initiates' Lights.”
  • W. Bro. Robert Johnson, Lodge of Bon Accord, No. 4935 – “The Preparation of King Solomon's Temple and How the Temple could have been Built.”

The third session, after which the results will be announced, is at Redditch Masonic Centre on, 10th February with:

  • W. Bro. Alex Sinton, Sabrina Lodge, No. 6595 – “Do I have to wear sky blue? I am a Manchester United Fan.
  • W. Bro. Alan Workman, Unity Lodge, No. 5812 – “The Regus Manuscript and Craft Guilds.”
  • W. Bro. Stuart Cameron, Sabrina Lodge, No.6595 – “Progress in Masonry.”
  • W. Bro. David Emery, Hagley and Holy Wells Lodge, No. 7932 –"The Best Job in The Province? The Life of a Provincial Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies."

All Brethren who wish to attend will be welcome. No need to book. Dress is smart casual (jacket and tie); no Regalia; and, the Bar will be open!
